English language courses for teenager

The ECS English language summer school welcomes teenagers from over 20 different countries each year. Pupils join us for a summer of English language immersion, hands-on workshops, excursions around southern English, sports and fun social activities.

Through our balanced programme of learning and recreation, our teens improve their English, make new international friends, gain confidence, develop life-skills and have a great holiday.

Our course takes place on a beautiful countryside campus with excellent facilities and plenty of space and freedom. Teens are accommodated in single rooms in comfortable boarding houses, one for boys and one for girls.

There is a swimming pool, tennis courts, a cinema room, a bright canteen and excellent learning facilities. ECS creates an interesting and supportive environment for teenagers.

Experienced staff organise a variety of workshops and social activities, making it easy and fun to learn new skills and connect with new people.

Age range for teenagers

Our English summer camp for teens is designed for students age 13 to 17.

Spending summer at our English language camp is a great way for adolescents to develop their independence, discover new interests and gain a deeper understanding of the world.

Sometimes 13 year olds prefer to join our younger group. This flexibility allows us to cater for each pupil as an individual, creating the summer experience that is best for them.

Children under 13 years old can join our English summer camp for children.

Teaching programme

In our residential English language course for teens, we combine dynamic lessons with practical workshops, from digital photography to cookery.

Our creative and hands-on workshops give our teenagers a way to focus on particular interests, try new things and develop world skills for life, while improving their English skills at the same time. Each year our workshops are a little different but always include creative projects like drama, songwriting or magazine design, practical skills like cookery or bushcraft, and language focused sessions on grammar and pronunciation.

English language lessons for 13+ pupils use modern and topical materials from real life, such as articles, videos and TED talks, which pupils use to model and practice their own presentation skills.

We promote Real Learning through adventure and independence.

We also offer an optional service called English Focus designed to help pupils identify their linguistic strengths, weaknesses and linguistic aims in order to make the most of their attendance.

Our summer English language camp means there's no need to choose between a fun holiday and a summer of study – we do both!

Accommodation

ECS English summer schools are residential, which means everyone lives on the same campus in purpose built accommodation. Teenagers live in modern boarding houses in the school grounds, one for boys and one for girls, with house parents to provide supervision and support.

Each pupil has a single study bedroom complete with hand basin, desk and wardrobe. Some rooms have removable partitions, allowing pupils to create a double room if they wish to share with a friend or relative of the same age and gender.

Teenagers have a large relaxation area where everyone can socialise together under supervision. There is a film room and a games room with table tennis and a pool table. Girls also have the use of a large common room in their own boarding house complete with TV, piano and 'disco' feature lights.

Living together on a residential summer course helps teens gain a sense of personal responsibility, improve their organisation and develop empathy and respect for one another.

Sports, activities and excursions

At our international summer school, students develop their English language skills while having fun with other young learners from around the world.

We spend our mornings in lessons and workshops, and then fill afternoons and weekends with different sports, trips and excursions, a fun social programme and time for relaxation with friends.

As well as a rich and varied programme of sports and excursions included in the course, teens can also join a special weekend visit to London for ages 13+. We also offer English plus golf, English plus tennis and a day trip to the ancient historical site of Stonehenge.

Looking after teens on our summer camp

Our pupils are supervised and supported by our experienced summer camp team throughout their stay, from arrival to departure at the St Pancras International train station or Heathrow airport in London.

All our activities are risk assessed and carefully planned to be fun, safe and inclusive. There are always several members of staff on hand to offer help and support during games, sports, social activities and on trips. And all our staff must pass strict safeguarding checks and complete courses in safeguarding. Three of our sports staff are fully qualified in first aid and the swimming pool is closed unless there is a lifeguard present.
